Sanming University (SMU) is a public provincial university established by the People's Government of Fujian Province, offering undergraduate programs. With a history spanning over 120 years, Sanming University traces its roots back to the founding of Quanmin Normal School on December 12, 1903. It is recognized as a first-class application-oriented university in Fujian Province and it is part of master's degree granting institutions cultivation project in Fujian Province.
SMU is located in Sanming city, which is known for being the hometown of the Song dynasty philosopher Zhu Xi, a distinguished tourist destination, a national civilized city, and a burgeoning industrial city. The campus covers an area of 1429 mu, and it comprises 14 secondary colleges offering 53 undergraduate programs with nearly 15,000 full-time undergraduate students. SMU currently boasts 3 provincially recognized first-class application-oriented main disciplines, 6 key provincial disciplines, 4 provincial application-oriented disciplines, and 3 disciplines under the master's degree granting institutions cultivation project. In 2024, Sanming University ranked 13th in Fujian Province according to the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy's China University Rankings.
SMU has persisted in running school openly, by actively responding to the national "Belt and Road" initiative and continuously promoting high-quality international exchanges and cooperation. Focusing on student exchanges, academic collaboration, and scientific research cooperation, SMU has established partnerships with 40 universities and research institutes globally. Currently, there are 2 international general education curriculum programs, and 4 undergraduate programs taught entirely in English for international students. To date, SMU has enrolled 167 international students from over 40 countries.

1. Applicants shall have good moral character and are willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as SMU rules and regulations, respect China's social ethics and customs.
2. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 30, be in good health, and possess a valid foreign passport.
Note: Residents of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated to a foreign country and who are now applying to study in China as international students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least four years (by April 30, 2024), and must have actually resided in a foreign country for at least two years in the past four years . (Nine months of residence in a foreign country may count as a full year. The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of actual foreign residence.)
3. Applicants shall have a high school diploma with satisfactory academic performance.
4. Applicants for the Chinese-taught Program shall pass HSK level 4 or above. Anyone who does not meet the above requirement shall take one year for language preparatory courses at Sanming University. With relevant evidence provided, HSK certificate can be waived to those applicants whose courses during high school are taught in Chinese.

* Fujian Provincial People’s Government Scholarship Program for International Students
This scholarship is designed for international students pursuing undergraduate, master's, or doctoral degrees in Fujian Province. It provides financial support of 30,000 RMB per year for undergraduates, 40,000 RMB per year for master's students, and 50,000 RMB per year for doctoral students,. The scholarship is awarded annually and it can be used to cover tuition, accommodation, insurance, and living expenses.
Winning students are required to participate in the annual evaluation, and those who pass the evaluation can continue to apply in the second year. Our university will recommend outstanding candidates for the next year's scholarship.

It is a university funded scholarship, which is evaluated once a year, including Scholarship for Freshman, Scholarship for In-school Degree Students, Scholarship for In-school Non-degree Students and HSK Scholarship. Students cannot receive both the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship and the Sanming University Scholarship simultaneously within the same year.

Different types of rooms are available for international students on campus, including single rooms and double rooms. Each room is equipped with color TV, refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner, water heater, internet access, and private bathroom.
Double room: ¥4,500/year/person
(Water and electricity fee shall be borne by students).
4. Insurance Fee
All international students must purchase insurance according to the
regulations of the Ministry of Education of China and the requirements of our university. Failure to get insurance timely will be denied for registration. The insurance fee is ¥800/year/person.
5. Other Fees
Other fees may include the textbook fee, medical examination fee, fee for the residence permit, etc. Specific costs are subject to current prices.
1. Application Form for International Students Wishing to Study at Sanming University, which should be completed and signed in Chinese or English;
2. A copy of valid passport information page;
3. Two 2-inch color photos with white background recently taken with heads and shoulders shown;
4. Copy of high school diploma and official transcripts;
5. Motivation Letter indicating educational background, working experiences, motivation of studying at SMU, reasons for choosing majors, and personal career planning after graduation, etc.
6. Proof of the guarantor's financial ability (mainly including statement of employment and income, or other proof of financial ability);
7. Certificate of No Criminal Record;
8. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form;
The medical examination shall cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant will be considered as invalid. Please schedule the physical examination appropriately, as the results are valid for only 6 months.
9. Language Proficiency Certificate (For Chinese-taught program applicants: a copy of HSK Level 4 certificate);
10. Priorities will be given to applicants with documents like award certificates, recommendation letters or certificates of participation in social practices, etc.
Note: Please submit the complete application materials in a single package and pack them in the above order. Cheats will be disqualified. Materials in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translation in Chinese or English.
